In July 2014, Emma Watson was appointed UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and became involved in the HeForShe campaign, in which she unveiled last September at the UN’s New York Headquarters.

The campaign is designed to get one billion men to declare their support for gender equality. During the speech, Watson spoke about her experience with gender stereotypes and feminism and since then, over 300,000 men have signed the campaign, according to, the guardian.

Since September, Watson has received backlash, but she it has only fueled her further.

“This is why I have to be doing this,” she said during a live Facebook Q&A on International Women’s Day. “If they were trying to put me off, it did the opposite.”

Despite the backlash, Watson has gained recognition for her speech and her work for the campaign. She placed number 26 on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list for 2015 as well as the Feminist Celebrity of the Year from the Ms Foundation for Women.

Now, Watson has won Campaigner of the Year for the Observer Ethical Awards 2015.

“Thank you @ObserverEthical for awarding me Campaigner of the Year! Honoured! I want to share this w every @HeForShe out there #ethicalawards,” she said on Twitter.

All of that with just one year working with HeForShe? Let’s see what she can do this year!
