Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, the trio of Top Gear hosts who helped make the long-running BBC car show an international phenomenon, have found a new home. Surprisingly, the address isn’t Netflix, but Amazon.
When Clarkson’s contract with the BBC was not renewed in March, Hammond and May decided to follow him. The BBC decided to hire radio personality Chris Evans to host the next season of Top Gear.
Meanwhile, there were rumors that Clarkson, May and Hammond would head to Netflix, but they changed their mind. Instead, their new show will be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video around the world.
“I feel like I've climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship,” Clarkson said in a statement.
The new show will be produced by their longtime executive producer Andy Wilman.
“Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen,” Jay Marine, Vice President of Amazon Prime Video EU, added. “Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows. We can’t wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016.”
The trio of hosts signed on to host three seasons, with the first available in 2016.
