Gwyneth Paltrow is letting her GOOP subscribers know they’ve likely been yawning incorrectly their whole lives.

Paltrow credited yogi Michael Lear for teaching her the real way to yawn when he caught her trying to hold one back over a dinner they both recently attended.

There are specific steps one must take to achieve the perfect yawn – which she said Lear calls an “important mechanism for releasing stress.”

Paltrow recalled Lear telling her, “Please yawn. Really give into it, as it’s the body’s primary way to release and stretch the jaw and neck muscles after a long day of work and conversation.”

She then listed five steps for “Yawn #1” and two steps for “Yawn #2,” which involves tears and the practice of “Ujjayi breathing.”

Paltrow recommended everyone do this throughout their day but “especially” at night, in order to “release accumulated energy and tension that may result from conversation and or the vicissitudes of the day.”
