HBO has picked up Ballers, the new comedy series starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, for a second season. The show is currently in the middle of its first season.

Johnson stars as Spencer Strasmore, a former star football player who decides to become a financial manager for current players with the beautiful Miami scenery behind him. The show debuted on Sunday, June 21 and the first season runs 10 episodes.

“The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the Ballers cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, said in a statement. “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response the series has received and look forward to another exciting season.”

Ballers was created by Stephen Levinson (Entourage, Boardwalk Empire) and also stars John David Washington, Donovan W. Carter, Oma Miller, London Brown, Jazmyn Simon and Troy Garity. The first episode of the show has earned 8.9 million viewers so far across multiple platforms, making it the most-watched HBO comedy premiere since 2009.

HBO did not say if The Brink will be renewed or not. It’s certainly surprising that the network renew both of them at the same time.

Other HBO comedies include Veep, Girls, Togetherness, Silicon Valley and Getting On.
