Donald Trump has been Jon Stewart’s favorite target during his final days on The Daily Show and some have speculated that The Donald would appear on his final show. But is that really going to happen?
Last month, the New York Post claimed that the final episode will be a pre-taped segment of Stewart’s favorite targets telling him to “f**k off” and it would include Trump.
In an interview with The Hill last week, Trump added some legitimacy to the rumor, claiming that the Daily Show producers have invited him.
“I like Jon Stewart — I think he’s good. They’re begging me to go on,” Trump said. “I would do it ... the problem is it looks like pandering. It looks so false and so phony if I do it.”
But Daily Show executive producers Jen Flanz and Tim Greenberg told Entertainment Weekly that this simply isn’t true.
“Him being invited to the last show is factually inaccurate,” Flanz said. “I can tell you that Donald Trump is not coming on the show. I confidentially feel like it’s okay for us to say that.”
Stewart’s last week will be filled with mostly regular Daily Show episodes, until the last one. “It’s definitely not going to be a current events-based show. We’re the news that day. We’re the news!” Franz said.
Stewart’s last episode is Aug. 6. He will be replaced by Trevor Noah, who starts in September.
