Beals did crack the passenger-side window open, but many believe that it wasn’t enough to provide air circulation for the dog.
Global News reports that as Beals walked to her car a citizen told her that she locking a dog in the car with limited air was illegal.
She replied, “In Dunbar it is, it’s fine.”
“It’s fine? Ok,” said the man. “Just letting you know I’m reporting this.”
According to E! Online, BC SPCA’s Chief Prevention and Enforcement Officer Marcie Moriarty has had to deal with many situations where dogs are left in hot cars.
She agrees that Beals windows were not rolled down low enough for the dog’s safety in this sort of heat.
“To be honest I’m shocked because I think that animal welfare agencies and media have done an exceptional job at getting this message out,” exclaims Moriarty. She doesn’t understand why people keep on leaving their animals in hot cars.
Beals has not made any mention about the situation on social media.
