Who better to take Trevor Noah on a tour of New York City than Jerry Seinfeld? Seinfeld took the future Daily Show host around Brooklyn and Queens for a new episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
The episode acts as an introduction to Noah and his early career, as many Daily Show viewers probably don’t know much about him. During the episode, Noah recalls growing up in South Africa during apartheid and how comedy helped him through the toughest periods of his life.
Noah also got a nice endorsement from Seinfeld, who told him that he is “going to be just fine” as Jon Stewart’s successor.
“When I first came to New York, I went gig crazy,” Noah said of his early days in comedy. “I was doing a show at the Bleecker Street Theater, and then after that I would go and do six or seven shows … and then Sundays I’d fly to London and then I’d do a show at a theater there for three days and then fly back to New York and do the same thing.”
Noah also revealed that he was actually in Dubai of all places when his manager told him that there was an offer for him to host The Daily Show.
“I’m in Dubai. I’m literally driving in the middle of the night and my phone rings and my manager says, “How would you like to be the host of The Daily Show?’” Noah recalled. “I get out the car, and I didn’t have legs. The worst thing is, you're in Dubai, which is one of the hardest places to find a drink and then you go, ‘Let’s find a drink!’”
The new episode, which features Seinfeld driving around in a 1985 white Ferrari 308 GTBi, is currently available on Crackle right here. The Trevor Noah era of The Daily Show starts on Sept. 8.
