Jesse Eisenberg’s comments about Comic-Con being like ‘genocide’ went viral on Tuesday, so the actor had to clarify what he meant. It was all just hyperbole, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star said.

Back on Monday, Eisenberg told the Associated Press at the premiere for his indie film The End of the Tour that being at Comic-Con last weekend was like “some kind of genocide.” He was at the event to promote the new DC Comics superhero movie, in which he plays Lex Luthor.

Eisenberg then made a series of comments with the Associated Press late Tuesday to try to clear everything up.

“Maybe on some cellular memory level, that's the only thing that seems like an equivalent social experience,” the Social Network actor told the AP. “Even if they're saying nice things, just being shouted at by thousands of people, it's horrifying."

Apparently, he also thought those comments would be taken the wrong way, so he explained further that it was just a hyperbole.

“I of course was using hyperbole to describe the sensory overload I experienced. I sometimes do employ that,” Eisenberg said. “I'm a normal person who has normal sensory experiences, so Comic-Con was very overwhelming for me. That said, it was really an honor to be on that end of such jubilation.”

Eisenberg did say it was “wonderful” to attend the event and to be on a press tour for a movie that people are actually excited about.

During Eisenberg’s interview with the AP on Monday, he also called journalists “pariahs,” but later said that he was just referring to the character he plays in The End of the Tour. That movie is based on author David Foster Wallace’s tour to promote Infinite Jest, with Eisenberg playing journalist David Lipsky and Jason Segel as Wallace.
