Jill Scott is no longer able to defend Bill Cosby following the release of the 2005 deposition, where he admits to giving drugs to a woman before having sex with her.
Scott has previously called the dozens of accusations against Cosby “insane,” saying she would only believe it if there was evidence to back it up. These tweets garnered a response from Cosby on Twitter, thanking her for it.
Now that there is evidence, she’s withdrawing her support. “About Bill Cosby. Sadly his own testimony offers PROOF of terrible deeds, which is ALL I have ever required to believe the accusations,” she wrote on Monday.
She continued to give her reasoning for doing what she did. “We live in America. Many African American men are detained &/or imprisoned for crimes without evidence,” she explained. “I will never jump on bandwagons based on social media or hearsay. Proof will always matter more than public opinion. The sworn testimony is proof. Completely disgusted.”
“I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It HURTS!!!” she concluded. “I'm not sorry for standing by my mentor. I'm sorry the accusations Rtrue.”
