Jimmy Fallon was forced to miss several of his shows due to a crazy finger injury. After a successful recovery he has come back and manages to laugh off the whole ordeal.

In June, Fallon said that he tripped in his apartment and injured his finger, but that was all the details he disclosed.

During his show last night, Fallon revealed more and explained that he had a ring avulsion. “My ring got caught on a countertop when I was going down and stuck there and pulled my finger out,” he explained. Trust me, I’m like, ‘Wait, what?’ I didn’t even look at the thing.”

Ring avulsions call for a very risky surgery where veins have to be reattached. If one vein is connected the wrong way, then the finger will die and have to be amputated.

Fortunately the surgery was a success, but Fallon had to recover in the ICU for 10 days. “I started losing it halfway through because you just sit there. You’re in a room. And I just started reading books about the meaning of life. I did!”

Fallon also admitted to watching the movie DUFF three times and a lot of Real Housewives of New York.

“I was watching TV and I was reading this meaning of life thing and I think, ‘This is the meaning of my life. I belong in TV and I should be talking to people who are watching who are either in an ICU—or wherever you are, at home—if anyone’s suffering at all, this is my job.”
