Kel Mitchell is looking to make a comeback with Nickelodeon. The former Kenan & Kel star has signed on to star in a new live-action series for the network called Game Shakers.

The series was created by iCarly’s Dan Schneider and stars Cree Cicchino and Madisyn Shipman as 7th graders who created a successful mobile app. They start a new company in Brooklyn with a friend, played by Thomas Kuc. Mitchell plays a rapper who wants to sue the girls for using his song, but he decides to work with them.

“I get to play a hip-hop mogul who is the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent,” Mitchell told Entertainment Weekly. “Double G is a rapper/singer/dancer/entrepreneur/investor, which gives us great story lines on the show. I love playing such a wild character, because you will see some great physical comedy, but he also has heart; he is a single dad that loves his son, Triple G, played by the very talented Benjamin ‘Lil P-Nut’ Flores, Jr. There are so many layers to this character that it is one of those dream-come-true roles.”

Mitchell is best known for his work on Nick during the 1990s, first on All That and then on Kenan & Kel with current Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson. The two even made a Good Burger movie, which was co-written by Schneider.

As TheWrap notes, since Kenan & Kel ended, Mitchell has done more work as a voice actor, contributing to Clifford The Big Red Dog, Pink Panther & Pals, Wild Grinders and Da Jammies. Now that he has that experience behind him, he’s ready to go in front of the camera.

Game Shakers will likely debut before the end of the year.
