Kelly Rowland will appear in season two of FOX’s hit show Empire this fall.
E! has confirmed that the singer will play Lucious Lyon’s mother in a flashback. The previous season often showed flashback scenes from Terrence Howard’s (Lucious) past, before the powerful music empire was built with his now-ex-wife Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji P. Henson.
The writers of the show tweeted a photo of Rowland hanging out with the cast last month, sparking speculation that the 34-year-old may appear on the show.
“Hey, @KELLYROWLAND! Thank you for spending some time with the #Empire writers!” the team wrote.
Oscar Winner Marisa Tomei has also signed on for a multi-episode contract as Mimi Whiteman, a demanding venture capitalist, according to Deadline, who soon becomes involved with the Lyon’s family drama.
Magic Mike XXL’s Adam Rodriguez will play Cookie’s new love interest in the new season. Other A-list stars set to guest star are, Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys.
Season two of Empire premieres Sept. 23.
