It is shaping up to be a very good offseason for the San Antonio Spurs as the team has snagged the highly-coveted free agent LaMarcus Aldridge.

Aldridge, 29, announced the news via his account Twitter on Saturday morning.

Yahoo Sports noted that league sources have said that the All-Star power forward agreed to a four-year maximum contract at around $80 million.

Aldridge, who spent his entire career with the Portland Trailblazers, was sought by and listened to offers from several teams over the past few days including the Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Toronto Raptors. In the end though, a pitch from Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich about playing with and eventually taking over for Tim Duncan won him over.

As previously reported, San Antonio traded Tiago Splitter to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday and created cap space. They also signed Danny Green and are expected to give Kawhi Leonard a max deal.

With all those pieces Aldridge should fit in nicely with his new team and wreak havoc on opponents in the upcoming season.
