Leonardo DiCaprio is using his fame to help make a change.
The actor announced that he donated $15 million to several organizations on Tuesday.
Together, they will be “implementing innovative and impactful conservation projects around the globe,” notes People.
“The destruction of our planet continues at a pace we can no longer afford to ignore,” DiCaprio said in an official statement. “We have a responsibility to innovate a future where the habitability of our planet does not come at the expense of those who inhabit it.”
Through his charity, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, grants will be given to more than 30 different organizations including Amazon Watch, National Geographic: Pristine Seas, Save the Elephants and the World Wildlife Fund. The Wolf of Wall Street star said he is “proud to support these organizations” and their efforts to “solve humankind’s greatest challenge.”
This isn’t the first time DiCaprio has used his status to help make a difference in the world. In 2014, he pledged $7 million through his foundation for ocean conservation.
“Protecting our planet’s oceans and the marine species that call it home is one of the most pressing sustainability crises facing humanity today and a moral imperative that we must acknowledge,” DiCaprio said.
