More details are emerging about the man who opened fire in a Louisiana movie theater during a screening of the film Trainwreck Thursday and police said he had an escape route planned.
The Associated Press noted that authorities said that 59-year-old John Russel Houser had a plan in place to escape before shooting himself.
Investigators said that his blue Lincoln Continental was parked just outside the exit door of the Grand Theatre 16 in Layfayette and that he attempted to blend in with the crowd amid the chaos. However, he turned back when he spotted police entering the parking lot.
"The quick law enforcement response forced him back into the theater," Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said.
After he went back inside the movie theater responding officers heard a single shot and found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As we reported earlier, the shooting took place about 20 minutes into the movie when Russel fired at least 13 shots. Jillian Johnson, 33, and a 21-year-old Mayci Breaux were both killed and nine other people were injured.
