Marisa Tomei has scored a recurring role in the second season of Fox’s Empire.
The Oscar-winning actress will play Mimi Whiteman, a billionaire venture capitalist who somehow finds herself involved in the Lyon family drama. She loves hip hop, fashion and women, notes Deadline, which first reported the news.
Tomei joins a stacked roster of guest stars for the second season of Empire. Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Oprah Winfrey and Common are all set to make appearances on the show.
The second season of Empire, which was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. The season will run 18 episodes, with the first nine airing this fall. The second half will air early next year.
As for Tomei, she just joined an HBO mini-series, in which she will play Gloria Steinem. Her other TV work includes an arc on Rescue Me. She was most recently nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Wrestler and was recently seen in Love is Strange. Her next film is Love The Coopers, which opens in November.
