Back in January, Emile Hirsch was charged with the assault of studio executive Daniele Bernfeld. Now, more details emerged on what exactly happened.
Hirsch was accused of putting Bernfeld in a chokehold and slamming her to the floor.
He says that he blacked out that night and does not remember the situation, but claims that she came at him first. He has currently been charged with aggravated assault and intoxication.
The night that it occurred, Hirsch said he had a couple drinks and admitted to acting aggressive towards Bernfeld.
“She started kind of causing a ruckus and I sort of started to intervene and this happened,” was Hirsch’s explanation. “I think she had a go at me and I probably defended myself.”
The Associated Press reports that Bernfeld said that Hirsh was super aggressive and in her face. He essentially said she was a spoiled brat and started to degrade her.
He called her a rich kid who “has never done anything and was just at Sundance to party.”
Bernfeld did push him and told him off, which lead to him attacking her. “He basically grabbed me at the curve of the elbow, choked me up, threw me across the table, and I felt the front of my throat hit the back of my throat.”
What makes the situation even crazier is the fact that Bernfeld hadn’t met Hirsch before that night. Yet throughout the evening, Hirsch got increasingly drunker and was grabbing Bernfeld’s hair prior to the attack.
Hirsch will need to return to court on August 17 where the prosecutors will announce a plea deal.
