Tarsem Singh, whose Self/less dropped with a thud at the box office this weekend, has been hired to direct all 10 episodes of Emerald City, NBC’s suddenly revived Wizard of Oz event series.

Out of nowhere, NBC revived the project in April, eight months after killing it. They picked David Schulner, a writer behind several recent short-lived NBC shows, to re-work the story, which was originally written by Matthew Arnold and Josh Friedman.

Schulner took to Twitter on Monday to announce that Singh will helm all 10 episodes of the series. He included a trailer of Singh’s best-known film, 2006’s The Fall. Singh has also directed The Cell, Immortals, Mirror Mirror and Self/less. While his career has been praised for visual splendor, he isn’t exactly known as a great storyteller.

Emerald City is planned as a Game Of Thrones-meets-Oz series, with Adria Arjona (True Detective) playing an older Dorothy Gale. Deadline reports that Jackson Cohen (The Raven), Ana Ularu (Inferno) and Gerran Howell have been cast in supporting roles.
