Is this how you treat shows you just renewed, NBC? The Peacock has shoved David Duchovny’s Aquarius crime drama to Saturdays, despite renewing it for a second season late last month.
Aquarius, which has been paired with the already-cancelled Hannibal, will air at 9 p.m. on Saturdays starting immediately. Hannibal will follow at 10 p.m.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they will be replaced by two-hour Dateline Thursday Mysteries episodes.
NBC renewed the 1960s-set Aquarius on June 25, claiming that its decision to post all 13 episodes of the show’s first season online after the premiere aired on May 28 was a success. That might have worked, but it means that no one is watching the show when it airs. Even after Live+7 TV ratings are released, Aquarius is only averaging a 0.9 18-49 rating.
As for Hannibal, that show was officially cancelled on June 23, although NBC insisted that it would air the rest of season three.
Unfortunately for fans of Bryan Fuller’s show, Amazon and Netflix have already passed on reviving it and the stars’ contracts have expired. At SDCC, Fuller hinted that he might make a movie to wrap up the storyline.
