NBC is reportedly considering rebooting Xena: Warrior Princess, but original star Lucy Lawless hopes fans put the brakes on their excitement.

News of the project comes from The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly confirmed it as well. There is no writer on the project yet, but original executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are involved in some way.

THR claims that the project will be a “modern reboot” of the fantasy adventure series that starred Lawless as the title character and Renee O’Connor as Gabrielle. The original series was a spin-off of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and ran in syndication from 1995-2001. It was produced by Studios USA and Universal Worldwide Television, which explains why the reboot is at NBC.

There are still a couple of questions left to answer. Will this be just a limited series or a multi-year series? Will Lawless, who is married to Tapert, still have a role of some king? Lawless doesn’t seem to know too much about the project and quickly told followers on Twitter that it is just “in the wishful thinking stage.”

Lawless, who appears in Raimi’s Ash vs Evil Dead series, has said several times that she wants to play Xena again. She told HitFix at Comic-Con that executives would be “fools not to bring it back.”
