The New York Yankees acquired second baseman/outfielder Dustin Ackley in a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the Yankees sent right-handed pitcher Jose Ramirez and outfielder Ramon Flores to the Mariners in exchange for Ackley. The trade come one day before the non-waiver trade deadline, which is Friday at 4pm. This was the Yankee’s first deal in the trade market.
Ackley was drafted by the Mariners in 2009 and he has spent his entire career with the team. He is making $2.6 million this year and will be arbitration-eligible after this season. This season he is hitting .215 with six homeruns, 19 RBI’s and a .635 OPS, according to ESPN. Ackley is a career .243 hitter.
Flores has played in 12 games for the Yankees this year. In those 12 games he hit .219, the New York Post notes. Ramirez was considered to be one of the Yankees top pitching prospects a couple of years ago. He has a 7.62 ERA in 11 games over the past two seasons. Ramirez and Flores will report to Triple-A Tacoma.
The Mariners have recalled first baseman Jesus Montero from Triple-A Tacoma. The Yankees have recalled right-handers Bryan Mitchell and Nick Goody from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned Caleb Cotham to Triple-A.
The Yankees are currently in first place in the AL East.
