Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift got into a little bit of a back and forth heated discussion on Twitter on Tuesday night after Minaj was snubbed on MTV’s Video Music Awards nominations.
After the VMA nominations were annouced, Minaj was disappointed she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year for “Anaconda” or Best Collaboration with Beyonce for “Feeling Myself.” Swift, on the other hand, got nine nominations and was nominated in both of those categories for her song “Bad Blood” with Kendrick Lamar.
“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj tweeted, (believed to be referencing Swift's star-studded "Bad Blood" video), to which Swift replied, "@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot."
However, Minaj denied she was throwing any shade at Swift. Instead she was pointing out the difference in recognition white women get in music as compared to African American women.
“Huh? U must not be reading my tweets," Minaj replied. "Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @TaylorSwift13."
She also took an issue with Ryan Seacrest’s website’s headline that read Minaj was throwing a “jab” at Swift with her tweets. “Nothing I said had to do with Taylor. So what jabs? White media and their tactics. So sad. That's what they want,” she wrote.
Somehow Kim Kardashian got dragged into it when she posted a meme or herself with the caption “Imma let you finish but…” which is the famous words her husband, Kanye West, uttered to Swift onstage at the VMAs before interrupting her speech.
Kardashian then clarified she meant no harm, tweeting, “Wait wait I'm in Paris it's the middle of the night & I'm posting my Vogue Spain pics not having a clue what's going on in the music world,” adding, “I'm not trying to shade anyone! That's not my style! I just thought that caption was perfect for that pic! Changing the caption now! #ironic.”
