The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly traded ace Cole Hamels to the Texas Rangers for several prospects.

The trade has not officially been announced but sources have told CSNPhilly.com that the deal was made Wednesday evening and an announcement is expected on Thursday.

The Phillies will reportedly receive left-handed pitcher Matt Harrison, top catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, outfielder Nick Williams and minor league right-handers Alec Asher, Jake Thompson and Jerad Eickhoff.

It is the end of an era for Hamels and the only organization he has ever known. The 31-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2002 draft and began his career in the Phillies minor league system. He made his major league debut in 2006 and has a record of 114-90 with a career ERA of 3.30, Baseball-Reference.com notes.

Perhaps Hamels’ most memorable year, and one that Phils fans cherish, came in 2008 when he played a key role in the team winning the World Series and was named the MVP. Another memorable moment for the California native came on Saturday when he pitched a no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs to cap off his career with the Phillies.

Hamels’ teammate and fellow pitcher Jake Diekman is also said to be part of the deal and is headed to Texas.
