On this week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, the PLLs look for more insight into Mona's friend, Lesli, Ali's dad, Ken receives a mysterious birthday card, and Emily continues to try to help Sara.
Emily and Spencer discuss the possibility of Lesli being –A while waiting for Mona to show up. Emily isn’t so convinced that Lesli is the PLLs’ masked tormentor, but Spencer reminds her how Mona had them all fooled. Enter Hanna, who informs her friends that Mona isn’t coming; she’s been grounded for sneaking into Radley. With Mona a no show and Aria at Hollis returning the negatives she stole from Clark, Emily, Spencer, and Hanna try to regroup. They disagree on how to handle their next step, but know they need to stick together.
At the DiLaurentis house, Ali’s dad, Ken notices a birthday card left on his car and freaks out on Emily, when she bikes past the property on her way home from meeting up with Spencer and Hanna.
Cue opening theme.
Aria returns Clark’s negatives at Hollis and he catches her. Aria tries to explain herself, but Clark waves her off; he isn’t mad. He also wants to take Aria out for breakfast, but she asks for a rain check.
Hanna ditches breakfast with her mom and Caleb in order to gain new leads on Lesli.
Meanwhile, Emily and Sara share a moment when Emily helps her pick out an outfit for her first day of work with Caleb.
Spencer prepares to leave to meet Hanna when Dean stops by. He brings her a book he thinks might help her and lets her vent about not wanting to speak at graduation when Melissa and her mother gang up on her. A text from Hanna asking why Spencer hasn’t left yet cuts the exchange short, though Spencer promises to see Dean later at their support group meeting.
Later, Hanna is spying on Lesli while still waiting for Spencer to arrive. She’s annoyed at Spencer’s tardiness.
Meanwhile, Caleb trains Sara on building a CMS interface and the two exchange feelings of being on the outside when they both realize they aren’t entirely clued into the PLLs’ situation.
Hanna’s search for clues continues when she successfully steals Lesli’s car by kissing up to a valet. Lesli works as a T.A. at a college lab and is attending a faculty luncheon.
At The Brew, a girl named, Nicole looks for Emily. When she talks to Ezra, she reveals she met Emily while they worked for Habitat for Humanity in Haiti.
Emily and Aria hunt for –A at the junkyard when they unexpectedly run into Clark and Aria pretends to be there looking for her lost tripod. Clark offers to help, but Aria says that’s why Emily’s with her. When Emily gets a text from her old friend, Nicole, saying she’s in town looking for her, Emily leaves Aria with Clark.
Spencer finally meets up with Hanna and helps her search Lesli’s car. They find wire cutters, several pairs of fake glasses, and four cages big enough to hold humans in Lesli’s trunk. They also have Lesli’s key card to the lab where she works. Spencer wants to make copy of it and thinks Caleb would be the best person for the job, which doesn’t sit well with Hanna.
Back at the junkyard, Aria and Clark search for Aria’s “lost tripod” when Aria spots a doll that looks like her. She knows –A left it for her.
At the same time, Emily catches up with Nicole at The Brew. Nicole recently became a supervisor for Habitat for Humanity and is visiting to see if Emily is interested in going to Thailand for eight weeks. Initially on the fence, Emily agrees to go and asks if she can bring Sara with her.
Spencer hangs out with Sara at Caleb’s while waiting for him to return from lunch so he can make the copy of Lesli’s key card for her. While waiting for Caleb, Spencer talks to Sara and realizes that maybe speaking about the PLLs’ terrifying ordeal at graduation is the right thing to do after all.
Back at The Brew, Caleb runs into Ashley while waiting to pick up his food and they chat about Hanna being distant. Caleb says he feels like’s lost her; Ashley reassures him that the old Hanna still exists somewhere.
Aria returns home and wonders how –A continues to outsmart the girls while on the phone with Emily. Emily reminds Aria that this is the kind of thing –A does. The call is cut short when Ezra drops by and surprises Aria. He returns her application for the photo competition since she left it at The Brew. When Ezra notices –A’s creepy doll of Aria, Aria lies and says she made it as an art project.
Spencer arrives home from sleuthing with Hanna to find Dean waiting outside her house. He’s pissed she stood him up at their support group meeting, since she told him she would be there earlier. Dean also tells Spencer he can’t see her anymore, because he’s developed feelings for her.
Caleb catches Hanna off guard as she’s getting ready to leave to snoop at the lab where Lesli works. Initially resistant, Hanna eventually gives in and the two share a steamy kiss.
Emily returns home from catching up with Nicole to find Sara freaking out about getting a bloodstain out of Emily’s carpet. Sara was riding her bike around town and noticed a car following her. Sara got cut when the car sped up and its mirror smashed against her elbow. When Emily gets Sara to calm down and shows her a picture of Lesli’s car, Sara says the vehicle looks familiar. Sara also tells Emily she can’t go to Thailand when Emily mentions the Habitat for Humanity trip. She doesn’t think Emily or anyone else can help her.
Spencer, Hanna, and Aria search the lab for clues and make an inadvertent discovery when Hanna starts beeping while standing in front of a metal detector; -A chipped them while they were drugged inside the dollhouse. The girls stay angry for a moment, then keeping looking for additional evidence that could incriminate Lesli.
Emily returns to The Brew and tells Nicole she can’t go on the Thailand trip after all, because Sara can’t be left behind. Nicole wonders if Emily is attracted to Sara, though Emily insists she isn’t.
Back at the lab, Hanna endures flashbacks of what happened in the dollhouse while staring at a raccoon trapped inside one of the cages and starts setting all the animals free. Spencer and Aria eventually catch up with her and use food from her purse to get the animals to calm down so they won’t attack. Later, Mona unexpectedly shows and prevents the girls from being caught by campus security. The girls begin to chide her for helping Lesli torture them, but Mona assures them Lesli isn’t the problem; it’s Charles. He’s still alive and broke out of Radley the same night Bethany did. Mona also thinks Charles is planning something big.
At the DiLaurentis house, Ken seeks out more information on the card he received. Later, he buries it at Charles’ grave. The card is from his son, who’s seemingly alive and looking to return to Rosewood for his birthday.
Meanwhile, Hanna updates Emily on their discovery at the lab, Spencer looks sullen at support group, and Aria seems upset when she sees Ezra hanging out with Nicole at The Brew.
Later, when Emily returns home, she and Sara finally give in to their feelings for each other.
End of episode.
