Raven-Symone, who joined The View as a permanent co-host last month, caused an uproar when she told Oprah Winfrey she doesn’t identify as African American back in October.

She’s now explaining those comments further, but not backing down from them in the least bit.

"I don't like labels, but everyone needs them to understand what is going on. So, okay, I get it. Give me 'American,'” she told People. “There is nothing wrong with being an American, purely.”

Symone, who also caused controversy by saying she prefers Rosa Parks for the $20 bill instead of Harriet Tubman, continued, "I think that there are a lot of different races that fall under 'American,' so past that you really just are sub-categorizing me over and over again," adding, "I'm not disowning my history in any way. My family has been here for almost 400 years. We're American."

When it comes to her sexuality, she doesn’t want to be labeled there either. Instead of being “gay” or a “lesbian,” she would rather be referred to as a “human who loves humans.”
