Raven-Symone is known for her outspoken and blunt statements, which was likely a contributing factor to why she got hired full-time on The View, and she’s now sharing her thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner’s life after her transition.
Symone is supportive of Jenner’s transition overall, but thinks the I Am Cait star is doing too much for the transgender community right off the bat. The former That’s So Raven star, who came out as gay in 2013, thinks Jenner needs to learn about the community before championing it.
"I think it’s wonderful, and yes, it needs a light being shined on it," Symone said, Us Weekly reports.
"When I came out, I didn’t go and go hardcore and be like, ‘I’m going to save the world for LGBT...' You’ve got to learn it. You’ve got to learn it first,” she continued.
When Rosie Perez argued that Jenner did wait to become an activist, Symone shared she thought Jenner is just doing too much “too soon.”
"Before [I came out], I was definitely repping the community, even when I wasn’t saying this is what I was,” she said. “And I’m not faulting [Caitlyn], because yes, we need [her]. It’s too fast, too soon."
Symone said she got advice from “the real gay rights activists” that “I can only do what I can."
