The last episode ended with Kirsten finding a mysterious key hidden at her mother’s grave due to an encrypted clue left behind by Ed Clark. This one begins with Kirsten back at her house curiously examining the key. She engages in the usual random banter with Camille, until someone knocks on the door.
The surprise visitor is a man with a British accent that goes by the name of Liam, and who turns out to be Kirsten’s boyfriend. “Wait, what?!” I think more people than just Camille had the same thought there. So does this mean Cameron is a no go? No time to find out yet as Kirsten and Camille are off to work, where Camille announces to everyone that Kirsten has a boyfriend. Maggie, of course, is instantly interested, and asks Camille to find out all she can about him and give her a full report. Camille, who seems to have taken a keen interest in Liam herself tells Maggie she’s not comfortable with collecting intel on him, but Maggie can be very persuasive.
The case they’re working on involves the death of a young, apparently rich girl who was found dead along a hiking trail. Since there was evidence of a scuffle nearby, the police suspect foul play, but the identity of the young girl is unknown. During Kirsten’s stitch, the only thing she is able to figure out is what the girl’s house looks like. Once they figure out where the house is, it’s time for some fieldwork.
Cameron is obviously jealous of the fact that Kirsten has a boyfriend, because he is boisterously harassing her. Maggie has joined them on this outing and was nonplused that Kirsten felt the need to stop and make a personal phone call. Don’t worry, it wasn’t to her boyfriend. Rather, she called Fischer to inform him that she found out that Ed Clark was indeed murdered. Last week, Maggie’s boss, Les, met with Kirsten in somewhat of an intimidating way, but did tell her that Ed Clark died protecting her. At any rate, Maggie tells Cameron and Kirsten to let her do all the talking to the owners of the house from Kirsten’s stitch, who may very well be the dead girl’s parents.
Meanwhile, Camille is back at home searching through Liam’s stuff to see what she can learn about him. He shows up, interrupting Camille’s research, but she moves on by asking him questions about his relationship with Kirsten. Supposedly, he’s a cultural anthropologist that travels and lives with natives for long periods of time. He explains that Kirsten has declined offers to travel with him, but it doesn’t seem to affect their relationship due to her total lack of time awareness. That way, whenever he returns, they just pick up where they left off. It kind of sounds too good to be true.
At the house Kirsten saw in her stitch, the trio discover that the couple who owns the house do not have a daughter, nor are any younger people living with them. The husband, however, seems uneasy, which Kirsten picks up on immediately. She starts her own interrogation of the man, but Maggie shuts her down.
Back at the lab, Linus was able to identify the young girl. Kirsten and Cameron take the keys she had on her to go check out her abode. While there, they discover a stash of stolen jewelry. Finally, there’s a motive for someone to have killed the girl.
Camille encourages Kirsten to answer Liam’s invite for dinner, so Kirsten leaves. Cameron and Linus go to talk to the dead girl’s best friend and find out that the two broke into houses while people were out of town to have parties. Come to find out that the last house they broke into, the man came home early and caught them. It seems everyone got away except the girl that is now dead.
In the meantime, Camille gave Maggie a copy of some of the pictures on Liam’s tablet. As Maggie looks through them, her attention is caught by another person in one of the pictures. After discussing it with Les, her boss, it appears that the mysterious person is a threat to them somehow. Les says he’ll take care of it, and Maggie will keep an eye on Liam. Hmmm….
Back to the case: Once they knew the young girl was trapped in the house after the man came home, it was time for Kirsten to go in for a second stitch. This time she saw the girl video tape the man having an affair, and Kirsten was able to figure out that the young girl was blackmailing the man. Although Kirsten couldn’t see the face of the killer, it was assumed that it was the man being blackmailed. We all know what it means to assume though.
It turns out that it was the wife who was having an affair and she was the murderer. Evidently she didn't want her husband to find out and divorce her, leaving her with nothing. I suppose money is the root of all evil. Kirsten and Camille were able to gain proof (they found the dead girl’s cell phone in the wife’s jewelry box), but it almost cost them their lives!
While Kirsten and Camille were off risking their lives, Cameron and Linus were at Cameron’s house feeling sorry for themselves. Linus is still frustrated with Camille’s lack of interest in any level of commitment, and Cameron is profoundly jealous of Liam. Just wait until he finds out that Liam proposed to Kirsten. Yep, but we don’t know her answer yet. Maybe we’ll find out next week.
Of course, there’s always the small possibility that Liam is really there undercover. I suppose it’s a good thing that Kirsten actually refrained from telling him about the Stitchers program, just in case.
