Ariana Grande has received a ton of backlash for the leaked security video of the singer in a doughnut shop telling friends and new boyfriend Ricky Alvarez she “hates” America. She has since apologized, but she has still been ripped apart in the media. Susan Sarandon is taking a different approach than most, and taking to Twitter to defend her.
Sarandon tweeted in defense of Grande, who has since apologized, and told a Twitter user who asked if she “hates” the “Love Me Harder” singer that she “adores” her.
“Today, lick a doughnut in solidarity with @ArianaGrande. A sweet, talented, true American,” she tweeted on Thursday.
In Grande’s apology, she said she’s “EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country.”
That wasn’t enough for Rob Lowe, who called her apology “lame” on Twitter. He also joked, “Cannot wait for the new Arianna Grande/Dixie Chicks jam to drop! #IActuallyLoveAmerica.”
