Anthology shows are becoming the next big thing on television after the success of American Horror Story, True Detective and Fargo, and now SyFy has ordered one of their own based on a popular internet story.
According to Deadline, SyFy has ordered the horror anthology series Channel Zero from Max Landis (Chronicle) and Nick Antosca (Hannibal).
The first season will be called Channel Zero: Candle Cove and will be based on the short story by Kris Straub. That story actually originated on the Internet as a "creepypasta," the term for short scary stories continuously passed around online. The original story involves a dark and mysterious children's TV show which may not actually exist, and the Straub story expands it to involve a series of murders.
The network has described the show as similar to a rich character-driven horror novel, and assuming Candle Cove does well, they seem to be looking ahead at a several season long run for this new series.
Channel Zero is currently in development. A release date for the show has not yet been announced.
