Taylor Swift is so generous, she’s more generous than GoFundMe thought people would be. After the singer donated $50,000 to a fan receiving cancer treatment, the company announced that it had to change its giving limit.
Initially, the limit was set to $15,000, meaning that Swift had to spread her $50,000 donation over multiple donations. GoFundMe realized that this was a bit ridiculous, so the company announced Thursday that it has upped the limit to $50,000.
“What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving,” GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon said in a statement.
As previously reported, earlier this week, Swift donated $50,000 to Naomi Oakes, who is battling Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. The 11-year-old is a huge Swift fan and was hoping to see her in August in Phoenix, but because of her treatments, she will not be able to see Swift in person.
“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts,” Swift wrote in a message to Naomi. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
Naomi’s family has raised $74,247 on GoFundMe, which far exceeds their $30,000 goal.
This isn’t the first time Swift has inspired a company to change their policy. Last month, she got Apple to pay artists for music users listen to during their three-month Apple Music trial period.
