Tom Selleck has settled his lawsuit with the Calleguas Municipal Water District. According to Time the actor paid $21,000 to the water district in order to settle a suit that was brought against him for stealing water from the district. The money reportedly paid for the cost of the private investigator.
Tom Slosson, the acting president for the water district’s board of directors told the AP “Underminding these laws is the concept of basic fairness. That is, residents and businesses within the district- the rightful users of district water- paid for the construction, maintenance and operation of the public works necessary to meet their water needs, not those of other landowners outside Calleguas’ legal boundaries.”
Selleck had been accused by the California water district of stealing water on at least 12 different occasions since 2013. The actor received a cease and desist letter, but was caught as recently as March 2015 taking water from the district. California is currently in a drought and has placed restrictions on water usage.
