Last week, news broke that Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio is leaving the network when his contract expires later this year.
The 53-year-old had been with ESPN since 2003 and is the latest personality to depart following the announcement that the contracts of Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann would not be renewed.
Of Cowherd’s departure, network President John Skipper said, “We’ve enjoyed a mutually beneficial run with Colin for over a decade. He came to national prominence on ESPN with his unique perspective on sports and society. Endings also bring new beginnings, for ESPN and Colin, and we thank him and wish him the best.”
Over the years, as competition grew, many sports personalities that were once a staple at ESPN have moved on from the du jour of sports networks. Now, with Cowherd’s sayonara, TheCelebrityCafe.com is counting down some of the biggest personalities who are no longer with the company. Whether they were beloved personalities or we found them to be a bit annoying, they became nationally-recognized names because of their time with the network.
