Episodes of the classic TV series The Dukes of Hazzard have been pulled from TV Land’s line-up thanks to the Confederate battle flag that’s on the roof of the General Lee Dodge Charger.
A TV Land spokesperson confirmed the rumors to Entertainment Weekly, although the network did not comment further.
The news comes just a few days after Warner Bros. Consumer Products announced that it will stop licensing the famous General Lee design to toy makers because the 1969 Dodge Charger features the Confederate battle flag on the roof.
The Dukes of Hazzard ran from 1979 to 1985 and starred John Schneider and Tom Wopat as the Duke boys.
Ben Jones, who played Cooter on the series, has come out in defense of the Confederate flag on Facebook. “The flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural South were the values of courage and family and good times,” Jones wrote.
Although Amazon has said that it will stop selling items with the Confederate battle flag in the wake of the Charleston church shooting, you can still get Dukes of Hazzard on DVD. You can also stream the show on Amazon Instant Video.
One Change.org petition to get Warner Bros. to keep the Confederate battle flag on the General Lee has over 20,000 signatures.
