They can’t build a new park can they? Colin Trevorrow is going to have to figure out some way to put Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in danger of being eaten by a dinosaur again because Universal has just announced Jurassic World 2.

The film, which will be the fifth in the Jurassic Park franchise, will open on Friday, June 22, 2018. Both Pratt and Howard are signed to return and Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will write the script. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trevorrow is probably not going to direct. (That’s possibly because he’s directing a Star Wars movie?)

Frank Marshall will again produce and Steven Spielberg, the director of the first two JP movies, will executive produce. Treverrow will also executive produce.

Jurassic World officially owns the record for biggest debut weekend of all time with $209 million. It is currently the third biggest film of all time in North America with $614.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.5 billion.

The movie is the first film in the JP franchise since 2001’s poorly received JP III. It mostly ignored the second and third films and told us what would happen if someone actually built a functioning theme park with living dinosaurs. Of course, we learned that it’s still not a good idea to have humans and dinosaurs stuck on an island together.
