Heating up a can of Chef Boyardee Ravioli can be a boring task. But not if you live in Hawaii! There, you can put a can in lava to heat it up.
OK, that’s not the best idea, but it’s exactly what Hawaii-based photographer Bryan Lowry did in a YouTube video that’s gone viral since he posted it in February. It’s garnered over 2.6 million views and is one of several videos with lava he has posted. The lava is over 2,000 degrees, so the average person should definitely not go near it.
Lowry has also posted other videos of food sitting in lava. His most famous features a Coke can and that one has earned over 21.9 million views since January 2014.
“These are simple experiments showing people what does happen to certain objects when lava hits them,” Lowry told the Huffington Post this week. “I never expected these videos to be so popular. Thought maybe a few hundred science-type people might watch and like them.”
Lowry is an experienced lava photographer and has been doing it for over 20 years. The videos were recorded at the Kilauea volcano, which has been erupting since 1983. It is located on the Hawaiian Island.
