On Tuesday Dawson posted a fifteen-minute video of him officially coming out as bisexual.
People know Shane Dawson as the YouTuber who creates hilarious and outrageous videos. Throughout his years on YouTube, Dawson has always joked about how he seemed gay, but always said it in a way that made fun of himself.
Now he admits that there was some truth behind those jokes.
He began the video admitting how nervous he was, but said that he had to do this. “I’m making this video because I feel like it can help people,” explains Dawson.
Dawson has felt sexual urges towards boys since he was five, but repressed those feelings because his religious family told him to.
Although Dawson knew he was sexually confused, once he started to date girls, he believed that he was straight.
Around the second year of his relationship, Dawson started to feel a strong attraction to guys again, which terrified him.
“There are a lot of coming out videos of people who are gay or lesbian and they’re so confident. But it made me cry because I’m not that, I don’t know who I am 100%.”
With the help of a therapist and being honest with himself, Dawson realized that he does not need a label to define who he is.
“I can love multiple people for a reason and I think that’s why I am where I am today because I am so full of love.”
