Matt Ryan, who played the DC Comics/Vertigo character John Constantine on NBC’s short-lived Constantine, will get to play the character again. No, no one has come to save that show. Instead, he will be appearing in The CW’s Arrow.
The possibility of a Constantine/Arrow crossover popped up in May when Arrow star Stephen Amell tweeted that he would guest star on the show if Netflix or another streaming service saved it. Unfortunately in June, the show was officially killed as no one picked up the show and actors were released from their contracts.
However, Constantine executive producer Daniel Cerone suddenly tweeted today that there will be a cool surprise for fans of his show. That was followed shortly by a video from Ryan, who revealed that he’s putting a trench coat on again.
“It’s a great one-shot episode,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said of the crossover at the TV Critics Association press tour, reports EW.
Both Arrow and Constantine are DC Comics properties and the shows were produced by Warner Bros. TV. Based on the Hellblazer comics, Constantine only lasted 13 episodes, with NBC declining to order a back-nine after it failed to draw high ratings.
Arrow returns for a fourth season on Wednesday, Oct. 7. You can check out our coverage of the show’s SDCC panel right here.
