D23 Expo held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California was a magical event in which Disney lovers and fans were able to all congregate in one location and show their love for all things Disney. For most people there, everyone had at least one Disney themed item of clothing on, whether it was a shirt, pins and buttons or even the forever famous Mickey Mouse ears one typically sees at Disneyland. For others however, this convention was a chance for them to show off their creative and imaginative sides as they were able to show off their amazing costumes that showed their love for Disney.
For most of the females, a majority of them were Princesses or other famous Disney females. Even for the males, many of them appeared as Princes or other popular males from the films and TV shows. This year there was plenty of Star Wars cosplays and Marvel cosplays as well, since both franchises are now owned by Disney.
There were so many great costumes that it was hard to capture in photographs even a small percentage of the amount of creativity and dedication these fans showed. Here is a list compiling some of the fantastic outfits seen at D23 Expo.
Here we see one of the Mousequerade winners in her mind-blowingly creative Disneyland 60th Anniversary "Marie Antoinette" inspired outfit. Bedecked in glittering sequins and sparkles this fan captured the soul of the Diamond Celebration at Disneyland. It is hard to see in the photo but the two sides of her skirt featured scenes such as ones you would see on Mainstreet USA in Disneyland and also a Haunted Mansion scene as well.
[new page=Frozen Fever and company]
This Elsa from the Disney animated short Frozen Fever had the most beautiful green lace dress that had rose buds attached all over on her cape. Her friend cosplaying as Kristoff fit the role perfectly as well. The Ariel on the right was spot on as well.
[new page=Haunted Mansion favorites]
Probably one of the most beloved rides at Disneyland is the spooky Haunted Mansion. In fact, many people at D23 Expo were wearing Haunted Mansion attire whether it be full on costuming or even shirts or hats. It seemed to be very popular this year. These cosplayers however, completely stunned fans of the ride as they were dressed as some of the most nostalgic and popular characters from the attraction. The Bride was the old Bride before they put in the new modernized one a few years ago. She even had the creepy beating red heart under her dress that you could see. The man is the famous Hatbox Ghost. Originally put in the ride when it first opened, the Hatbox Ghost was taken out and then was just put back in this year for the 60th Anniversary; making this cosplay a very fitting choice this year.
[new page=Matterhorn]
This woman also showed her love for a popular Disneyland attraction dressed as the Matterhorn Mountain. Made out of fabric, this woman hand made her entire outfit which was even complete with miniature bobsleds and riders. The best part of her ensemble was the rotating Tinker Belle on top of her head that represented the times when Tinker Belle flies through the air during the nightly firework shows at the park.
[new page=Mulan and Yao]
These two cosplayers perfectly captured the spirit and attitude of Mulan and Yao from the animated Disney film Mulan. While most girls at the convention opted to dress as the classic and dainty princesses, this girl decided to cosplay as one of Disney's greatest war heros.
[new page=Pinocchio and Candlewick]
Probably some of the two most accurate cosplays had to be this duo of Pinocchio and Candlewick. The two even had the details down to stuffed animals of the other characters from the beloved Disney classic. It is also nice to see minor characters being portrayed such as Candlewick, who many people forget about. He seems to be in mid-donkey transformation as well which was another great detail.
[new page=Pirates]
This pair of cosplayers were clever in portraying characters from another famous Disneyland attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean. One of the most famous scenes from the ride is when the pirates are selling the imprisoned wenches as brides. Of course the most popular of the wenches is the red head "Scarlet." This cosplayer has everything perfect and even the pose is exactly how the animatronic is in the ride.
[new page=Prince Charming]
Of course Cinderella was a character that was extremely popular to cosplay as this year at D23 Expo, mainly because of the new live action movie that came out earlier in the year. Many girls were the classic and new Cinderella. However this was the only Prince Charming I had come across during the whole Expo. Not only does he have the perfect classic Cinderella Prince Charming outfit but he even was holding a gorgeous diamond studded slipper that was similar to the one the modern Cinderella wears. His cosplay was a perfect mix of classic and modern fairytale.
[new page=Sleeping Beauties]
What is better than one Sleeping Beauty? Two Sleeping Beauties. I shamelessly had to put myself and the famous Disney cosplayer and singer, Traci Hines in here because it was a perfect match of Briar Rose and Princess Aurora together. Traci decided to go with the blue version of this Aurora dress and personally I think many people prefer the blue to the pink Aurora dress as a majority.
[new page=Yetti]
This Yetti would have went perfectly with the woman dressed up as the Matterhorn. This Yetti is the one from the attraction itself and the cosplayer had the perfect costume from the stilts to the glowing red eyes. It was as if the animatronic from the ride stepped out into real life and into the Expo. As you can see the child about to take the photo with Yetti wasn't too thrilled to be standing next to him; the costume was rather scary.
