A popular teenage singer is opening up about his struggles with mental illness.
Michael Clifford of the Australian pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer opened up about his struggles to fans at the group’s concert in Detroit Wednesday night, according to USA Today.
“I was fixing some problems with my mental health,” the 19-year-old told the crowd, saying that the band had a break on their current Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour. “I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had.”

Many fans in attendance were able to catch the speech on video, which was later posted all across social media.
5SOS, as the group is known by their loyal fanbase, responded showing their support to Clifford with the hashtag, #WeLoveYouMichael on Twitter, which quickly began trending worldwide.
Clifford clarified his on stage comments during his band’s Friday morning appearance on Good Morning America. “I think the speech was taken a little out of context,” he said. “It was a thing that happened for me, but it’s all good now.”
Clifford suffered a physical injury this summer when his face was burned after getting hit with stage pyrotechnics during a June performance in London.
5 Seconds of Summer’s album Sounds Good Feels Good is set to be released on Oct. 23. The band’s self-titled debut topped the Billboard charts last year and sold over three million copies worldwide.
