Defense attorneys for Aaron Hernandez are looking to stop certain pieces of evidence from being submitted at his upcoming murder trial.
The Associated Press reported that lawyers for the former NFL star asked that a judge toss out any evidence recovered from their client’s SUV. They argued it should be inadmissible since it was collected using a search warrant which was granted based on statements made by a man named Carlos Ortiz, who failed a lie-detector test.
Ortiz was charged along with Hernandez for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez was found guilty of first degree murder in April and was sentenced to life in prison. Ortiz, however, is still awaiting trial.
Hernandez has also been charged with the shooting death of two men, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, outside a Boston nightclub in 2012. Prosecutors contend that the athlete shot both men after he had an altercation with them over a spilled drink. He has plead not guilty to the double murder.
That trial is set to begin in December.
