Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin, is taking her quest to become a star in her own right to another level. This morning, she was officially announced as the first celebrity contestant for Dancing with the Stars season 21.
“I am absolutely thrilled. I can't tell you how excited I am,” Irwin, 17, told People before appearing on Good Morning America this morning. "I think that it is going to be a truly unbelievable new experience. I can’t wait to see what is to come."
Irwin is more used to wrangling crocodiles than learning how to dance, but she’s up for the challenge. The judges do make her nervous though.
“They are so knowledgeable. They’re supreme athletes,” she said of the judges on GMA. “I’m just this girl from Australia who’s used to crocs so give me a 15-foot crocodile any day."
Irwin was only 8-years-old when her father died during a stingray attack in Australia. She’s been working hard lately to build a public profile, admitting last month that she’s dating “someone special,” has co-created the book series Bindi Wildlife Adventures and stars in TV shows about conservation efforts.
DWTS Seaon 21 kicks off on Monday, Sept. 14. Expect to hear the names of the other contestants for the Mirror Ball trophy during the week.
