The boyfriend of Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter has been arraigned in her fatal stabbing earlier this week in New York City.
The Associated Press noted that Lamar Davenport did not enter a plea Wednesday when he appeared via video monitor from his hospital bedside to be arraigned for the killing of Edena Hines.
The 30-year-old was arrested Monday and accused of stabbing Hines, 33, multiple times in front of her apartment building in Manhattan last Sunday.
"This is a brutal murder with overwhelming evidence, where the defendant intentionally killed the victim," Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Penfold said.
As we previously reported, Davenport was found at the scene standing over Hines and witnesses heard him screaming "Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out," as if he was trying to perform an exorcism on her.
She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead and he was taken to a different medical facility for a psychiatric evaluation.
Hines is the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife. Following her death the actor released a statement saying that “The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
