On this week’s episode of Chasing Life, April’s bachelorette party gets a little out of hand, Dominic makes a shocking confession that causes a fight between him and Leo, and Brenna reaches out to Finn, who was the recipient of her bone marrow.
April and Dominic discuss April’s recent plan to write a book and Dominic
shares anecdotes of his own experience writing a book. He promises to get April some face time with his agent, Nina before she heads home to New York. April also congratulates Dominic on buying his own house.
Later, April and Beth talk about April’s bachelorette party.
Cue opening theme.
April appreciates Beth’s offer to hire strippers for her party, but wants to do something a bit classier, that way Emma and Sara can be included. In addition, April worries that Brenna will feel hurt about being left out, since she’s under 21. Beth says she’s already cleared things with Brenna and Brenna understands why she can’t be included. Beth suggests maybe having a wine tasting for April’s bachelorette party instead.
At the Carver house, Brenna tells Ford she’s so happy she isn’t going to be part of April’s party and that she’ll be home alone. They make plans to hang out and Brenna considers inviting Finn, since she feels bad that he has cancer. She’s trying to make new friends at her new school.
April fills Brenna in on what she learned in Rhode Island and asks Brenna if she ever noticed a change in their father’s behavior before his death. Brenna says she only remembers him travelling a lot. Before the two sisters can speculate any further, Sara enters and they all share an emotional conversation about it being April’s last week at home. A few moments later, they hear Emma and Sam fighting. Curious to know more, Sara and the girls catch up with Emma and Emma claims she and Sam broke up because they wanted different things and they couldn’t work it out.
April has a meeting with Dominic’s agent, Nina and Nina asks where April is at in terms of planning her novel. April shares some ideas with Nina, but she rejects them all, until April mentions a YA-esque novel. Nina thinks that appealing to young adults would be a great marketing tactic, however, it would take two to three years to get April’s book on shelves. For this reason, Nina advises that she and April set up another meeting if April is serious about moving forward with her novel.
Upon hearing Nina’s news, April freaks out and seeks comfort from Leo and his best gal pal and “best man,” Frankie who’s in town. Leo thinks April should listen to Nina and begin writing. But first, April has to find a new band to play at her wedding; their band accidentally double booked and had to cancel.
Brenna hears Finn reject an invitation to a party at a classmate’s house, so she invites him over to talk and hang out with her and Ford.
Leo and Frankie go to Leo’s tux fitting. Frankie is still upset that Leo told her he had cancer over email then froze her out. Leo apologizes and then changes the subject, saying he really needs to find a new band to play at the wedding.
April sees Dominic’s house and he tells her Nina told him she thinks April has a lot of great potential. April is also pleased that things are coming together fast, because she wants to leave something important behind. Dominic knows that feeling and doesn’t want April to crack under the pressure. April also laments not having a band to play at her wedding, so Dominic offers to help her out.
Later, Frankie has to convince Leo to go to a show where a band Dominic knows is playing. Dominic has personal connections with the band and has asked them if they’d be willing to play at April and Leo’s wedding.
At April’s bachelorette party, everyone trades stories about love and relationships when April’s friends, Meg and Vanessa crash.
Meanwhile, Leo is at the show with Frankie against his will and claims he’s not really into the band. Frankie thinks Leo is acting childish and tells him to get over himself, because Dominic is only trying to help him. Dominic and April might have had a thing in the past, but Leo won in the end, so Dominic shouldn’t be a threat to him.
Brenna, Ford, and Finn hang out and Finn feels uncomfortable with all their questions about cancer. Finn is weirded out by their behavior, especially since Brenna has experienced the effects of April’s cancer firsthand. In an effort to make an apology, Ford offers to make out with Finn.
Vanessa and April talk at the bar and Vanessa says she doesn’t know how April isn’t afraid of being tied down to Leo, because she doesn’t do monogamy. April lets Vanessa’s words sink and realizes she needs to have one last hurrah before tying the knot, leading the group to wind up at a strip club after all.
While there, Natalie helps Sara loosen up and April and Emma get themselves arrested when they refuse to listen to a security guard after he tells April she isn’t allowed to dance with the strippers onstage. In jail, Emma and April share a heart-to-heart and April realizes she can’t let her fear of dying govern her decisions. She chooses to move forward with the book she really wants to write.
Back at the Carver house, Brenna doesn’t think it’s a good idea for Finn and Ford to make out, so they give him a taste of vicarious experience and make out for him.
Leo and Frankie shoot pool and Leo tells Dominic he’s so glad he has nothing to worry about now that he knows Dominic won’t try to swoop in and steal April from him. Dominic thinks Leo should re-consider how he feels about him, because he still loves April and wants her back, leading the two guys to get into a brawl.
The next morning, Brenna rehashes anecdotes about April’s bachelorette party and arrest to Leo while April prepares notes for another meeting with Nina later. When April sits down with Nina again and tells her she’d really like to write a memoir instead of a YA novel, Nina says she can’t help April as she‘s looking for material with “broader appeal.”
Later, Brenna and Finn chat at school and the two seem to really connect following the incident between her and Ford.
April shares updates about her book with Dominic and wants to thank him for introducing her to Nina by taking her to lunch, though Dominic isn’t too keen on the offer. He claims he’s really busy with new house stuff and probably won’t be able to get in touch for a while. In reality, Dominic doesn’t want April to see the black eye Leo gave him during their fight the previous evening,
End of episode.
