Dolly Parton’s first TV movie hasn’t aired yet, but NBC announced plans for the second movie named after a song by the country music legend on Thursday. The network said at the TV Critics Association Press Tour that the second film will be based on the song “Jolene.”
The surprising Parton/NBC partnership was first announced in January and it was revealed in May that the first film will be named after the song “Coat of Many Colors.”
As The AP notes, “Jolene” was first released in 1973. It’s about a woman begging Jolene not to steal her man away and has been covered by Olivia Newton-John, The White Stripes, Ellie Goulding and many others.
As for Coat of Many Colors, that film will star Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles as Parton’s mother and Ricky Schroder (24) will play her father. Alyvia Lind will play Parton as an eight-year-old.
“This little story just encompasses so many things,” Parton said Thursday, reports Rolling Stone. “It's an attitude. It's more than a song. It's about so much that we've forgot so much of these days, just to bring families together.”
Coat is expected to debut during the holiday season.
