Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi celebrated seven years of marriage in an unconventional way by attending the 2015 Teen Choice Awards together.
DeGeneres had a packed weekend, attending D23 to promote the upcoming Finding Dory and winning the Teen Choice Award for Choice Comedian. DeGeneres delivered an memorable and inspirational speech to the crowd upon winning her award.
She started off by thanking fans and explaining that she was on her way to the beach and was in desperate need of a surf board.
"I'll put it on top of my car. I wanna say right now that I am pro-Teen Choice—just wanna get that out there. And, you know, they say teens make bad decisions, but you made a very good decision tonight by choosing me. That was smart, smart, smart. All of you," said DeGeneres. "I wanna say also it feels good to be chosen, but there was a time in my life that I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different, and I think I wanna make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now makes you stand out later in life. You should be proud of being different, proud of who you are."
De Rossi was sitting in the front row supporting her wife of seven years.
"The most important thing I wanna say is just really embrace who you are, because being unique is very, very important and fitting in is not all that matters. It's being unique and being who you are. And what an amazing day this is, this is my seven-year wedding anniversary, so happy anniversary."
She followed up her speech by thanking fans again on Twitter and saying that she couldn't wait for her talk show to return for season 13 on September 8th.
