Attention Empire fans: this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for.
The first official promo for the show’s highly anticipated second season premiered on Thursday, and by the looks of it, this season is going to be amazing.
Lucious (Terrence Howard) starts the promo with some sincere words to his ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), possibly hinting at a rekindled romance between the two.
“You always were ride or die. Always,” Lucious says to Cookie, who is visits him in jail.
Not only is there drama between Lucious and Cookie but also between brothers Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). The two competing brothers will go head to head this season as they try to further develop their music careers, and Hakeem has some strong words.
“I’m gonna be bigger than you’ll ever be. Bigger than dad, too,” Hakeem promises Jamal, who said he was going to “bury” his upcoming album.
Not to mention Andre (Trai Byers) is starting a full-on war to dethrone Lucious. He and Anika (Grace Gealy) have teamed up to remove Lucious as C.E.O. of Empire Records, and Lucious is not amused.
We also get a sneak peak at some of this season’s a-list guest stars. As we’ve previously reported, Marisa Tomei will play Mimi Whiteman, a billionaire venture capitalist that appears to be on “Team Lucious.” Joining her is Chris Rock, who plays one of Lucious’ inmates, and Ludacris, who plays a prison guard.
Between all the singing, dancing and drama, we are so excited for Empire season two!
Empire returns Sept. 23 on Fox.
