While the New England Patriots organization is in the middle of dealing with the whole DeflateGate scandal, another cheating scandal was brought to mind by ESPN.

PFT noted that the network cited a report by the Boston Herald (via the Boston Globe), regarding the team videotaping the St. Louis Rams final walk-through practice as factual.

Anchorman Steve Levy offered the on-air mea culpa during SportsCenter at 12:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

“On two occasions in recent weeks, SportsCenter incorrectly cited a 2002 report regarding the New England Patriots and Super Bowl XXXVI,” Levy said. “That story was found to be false, and should not have been part of our reporting. We apologize to the Patriots organization.”

After the apology, the team wasted no time letting fans know about it.

The Patriots were of course the subject of the 2007 cheating scandal dubbed as "Spygate" in which the team was disciplined by the league for videotaping the New York Jets' defensive coaches' signals during a game.
