Kim Kardashian is known to promote products on her social media accounts. But after one Instagram post, in which she praises anti-morning sickness drug Diclegis, the Food and Drug Administration sent her a warning letter on August 7.
According to an August 11 report from Forbes, the FDA’s Office of Prescription Drug Promotion requested the reality TV star remove a July 20 Instagram post. In the social media update, Kardashian had claimed Diclegis improved her morning sickness. In it, she wrote:
OMG. Have you heard about this? As you guys know my #morningsickness has been pretty bad. I tried changing things about my lifestyle, like my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor. He prescribed me #Diclegis, and I felt a lot better and most importantly, it’s been studied and there was no increased risk to the baby. I’m so excited and happy with my results that I’m partnering with Duchesnay USA to raise awareness about treating morning sickness. If you have morning sickness, be safe and sure to ask your doctor about the pill with the pregnant woman on it and find out more www.diclegis.com; www.DiclegisImportantSafetyInfo.com
The FDA’s letter calls these statements “false and misleading,” as Kim K. doesn’t touch on the drug’s risks. Diclegis has been approved for treating pregnancy-related vomiting and nausea but has not been studied on women with hyperemesis gravidarum, a more severe form of morning sickness.
The letter also targets the fact that this was a paid post and that manufacturer Duchesnay had been warned in 2013 about its promotional tactics.
The post has since been removed from Kardashian’s account. Duchesnay has until August 21 to send a response.
