Once Gigi Hadid arrived at agencies as an aspiring model, she had a hard time facing the fact that she had to lose weight to build a road towards a successful career.

The 20-year-old model confessed that she cried to her mom after agencies told her that she needed to change.

“My thighs were huge, they were like rock,” Hadid told the Daily Mail. The model had an athletic body thanks to years of volleyball practices. Therefore, she had a lot of muscles and ate "like a man."

“I had like crazy muscles and I ate more than the man that I eat like now, like a bigger man — and it was crazy but at the time I didn't care what my body looked like, I just wanted to be the best volleyball player I could be so it didn't really matter to me," Hadid confessed of her love towards the sport.

The Guess model went to New York City to find the right agency for representation. However, as Hadid recalled, many of them had a problem with her body.

“A lot of them were like, ‘You have to lose a lot of weight,'" Hadid explained. "I would cry at night and my mom would be like, ‘We’re going to find the right people.’”

Hadid now understands that the goal is to accept your body and "embrace what you have."

“I’m kind of the model that everyone thought would always be the Guess, Sports Illustrated girl," the Tom Ford model continued. "When I started to do high fashion stuff…people were like, ‘Oh so we can have a girl with like thighs and a butt in a Tom Ford campaign, cool.’”

Hadid knows that part of her job is to watch her diet and figure, but never to the point that the body becomes unhealthy.

“Once I started modeling, one of my things was like yeah, I don't need to be a man volleyball player but I also don't want to be like two pounds soaking wet,” the girlfriend of Joe Jonas stated. “That's always something that I was very strong minded about, I just want to be a healthy role model and I haven't swayed from that at all."
