HBO's drama The Leftovers returns for its second season this October, and the network has just unveiled our first look at the new season.
The trailer shows the Garvey family, consisting of Kevin (Justin Theroux), Nora (Carrie Coon) and Jill (Margaret Qualley), moving to a new town in Texas called Miracle. With a population of 9261, this is supposedly the only place in America to not lose a single person in the Departure. Also moving to Miracle is Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) and his wife Mary (Janel Moloney), and Matt seems to have been the one to convince the Garveys this town is something special.
Even the characters not moving to Texas will still remain in the show, however. Laurie Garvey (Amy Brenneman) has left the Guilty Remnant and reconnected with her son, Tom (Chris Zylka). Meanwhile, Meg (Liv Tyler), who still remains in the Guilty Remnant, begins to question if the cult has changed for the worse.
There are also plenty of new characters, and HBO describes Season 2 as a tale of two families. In addition to the Garveys there are the Murphys, a local Miracle family apparently spared from the Departure. That family consists of Erika (Regina King), John (Kevin Carroll), Michael (Jovan Adepo), and Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown).
The Leftovers was created by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and is based on the Tom Perrotta novel of the same name. While the first season aired during the summer, HBO recently announced that The Leftovers Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m.
